MURRLE BENNETT & CO. – an early 20th century 9ct gold amethyst pendant. Of openwork design, the oval-shape amethyst collet, within a foliate surround, suspending a similarly set amethyst drop. Maker’s mark for Murrle Bennett & Co.

Mr Murrle was a German national who worked with his English business partner, Mr Bennet at their premises at 15 Charterhouse Street, London.
In 1916, during WW1 with Germany, Mr Murrle, who set the company up in 1884, being German was interned in a camp on the Isle of Man, as an “enemy of the state” and the business forceable wound up.
Marked as “9CT” and tests as such. Our gem tester shows the two pretty stones to be Amethysts.
