A particularly attractive cased set of six Arts & Crafts silver buttons, made in London in 1900 by Cornelius Desormeaux Saunders & James Francis Hollings Shepherd.
Each button is circular in form, with a delicate floral design surrounded by a beaded scalloped border. The set retains its detachable fittings and is presented in its original fitted leather case, signed Lowe & Sons, Goldsmith, Chester.
The design is characteristic of the Arts & Crafts taste for stylised natural forms and decorative craftsmanship, while the surviving fitted case adds considerably to the charm and collectability of the set.
