Here we have an exceptionally fine example of the Kigu “Flying Saucer” powder compact from the 1950’s.
This compact provides a unique glimpse into the social history of the mid 20th Century as The Flying Saucer shape reflected public fascination with a growing media hype centred around the race to conquer space and space travel; ‘Unidentified Flying Objects’ (UFOs); the possibility of alien life from other planets and new architectural designs and art based upon the space-age shapes.
The name “Kigu” comes from first two letters of the founders surname and first name, Gustav Kiaschek.
This compact was available from 1956 until 1961 and is sometimes referred to as the ‘Night Flight’
The inner lid is opened to reveal a powder well with a sifter comprising of a velour covered frame and open weave fabric and a puff with the Kigu trademark logo.
The compact has a bar-type press closure. This is comprised of an external thumb operated ‘button’ which releases the outer lid when pressed inwards and is designed for ease of opening.
The puff has the Kigu logo on it. There is just the merest hint of powder perceptible by the nose.

Diameter: 3 inches (7.6 cm) approx. Weight: 3.23 ounces (94 grams) approx.
Any black patches are merely reflections from the lights but please do feel free to request further photographs taken of any parts of the compact and from any distance. It is no trouble at all and we really do want you to see just how special this item is.
There is a very informative article on this compact at: https://face2facecompacts.wordpress.com/2020/01/14/kigu-powder-compacts-a-very-compact-history/
Viewed at some angles there is a tiny hint of mirror “fogging” but as you see from the little bears reflection in the photos, it barely shows, if at all, most of the time.
I cannot see the slightest trace of powder inside other than possibly some ultra fine bits in the mesh. There is barely a trace detectable by the nose anywhere.
If you want one of these I really cannot see you will ever find a better one. It really is very special.
Please do view the photos carefully, as always, they form part of the description.
